By Mary Maraghy

Boree Canvas Unlimited Inc., near Murray Hill, won an award for a commercial awning it built for High Tide Burrito Company in San Marco, according to a news release.

Boree Canvas, which creates fabric and metal awnings, won the 2009 International Achievement Award presented by the Industrial Fabrics Association International. Boree’s project was selected from 416 entries in 17 different countries and judged by industry experts, editors, architects, educators and design professionals. Judging was based on complexity, design, workmanship, uniqueness and function.

“It feels great to represent Boree Canvas and Jacksonville on an international level,” said Donnie Boree, president of Boree Canvas.

“This award has really given us a morale boost around here,” said Kelly Schellenburger, supervisor of the fabricating shop. “We have entered the competition for years now, and it feels great to finally have won and have all the hard work pay off.”
